Crochet strawberries

These strawberries were 99% of the reason i learnt to crochet. How could i have a shop called 'Strawberry Latte' and not sell the most adorable crafty incarnation of a strawb i have ever seen! Originally inspired by these perfect little things, here is the pattern:

4mm hook,
Tapestry needle,
Stylecraft special DK yarn in Matador, Fiesta, Fondant for the strawberries,
Stylecraft special DK yarn in Meadow for the leaves,
Sirdar Snuggly Baby Bamboo DK in Goldie for the seeds.
(i bought these from www.deramores.com)

All written in English crochet terms
dc = insert hook, yarn over, pull through loop (2 loops on hook) yarn over and pull through both.
dc2tog = insert hook, yarn over, pull through loop (2 loops on hook) insert hook into next stitch, yarn over, pull through loop (3 loops on hook) yarn over, pull through all loops.

Berry
Start with a magic circle
R1: 6 dc into the magic circle (6)
R2: 1 dc into the next stitch, 2 dc into the next stitch, repeat twice more (9)
R3: dc in each stitch (9)
R4: dc in each of the next 2 stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, repeat twice more (12)
R5: dc in each of the next 3 stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, repeat twice more (15)
R6: dc in each of the next 4 stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, repeat twice more (18)
R7: dc in each of the next 5 stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, repeat twice more (21)
R8: dc in each of the next 6 stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, repeat twice more (24)
R9: dc around (24)
R10: dc in each of the next 3 stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, repeat 5 more times  (30)
R11-12: dc in each stitch (30)
( i like to sew on my seeds at the very end but you could do them now before stuffing)

Stuff almost all of the strawberry

R13: dc in the next stitch, dc2tog in the next stitch, repeat around (20)
R14: dc2tog around (10)

Stuff the very top of the strawberry

R15: dc2tog around (5)
Finish off and weave in ends.

My plan was to empty one bowl, whilst filling the other !

Leaves
With a green yarn, make a magic circle.
1. 6dc into the magic circle and slip stitch into the first to close the ring.
2. *4 chain, miss the chain nearest to the hook then 1dc in each stitch,
Slip stitch into the next dc on the magic circle*
 3. repeat * to * 5 times.
4. Fasten off leaving a long tail and use this to sew the top onto the berry.

If you haven't already, sew on the seeds, tie a knot and poke it into a stitch to hide it.

Voila! Enjoy!
